Oscar Ellsworth Blair, 55 years old, of 108 New York Avenue, died this morning at 12:43 o'clock after an illness of several months. Mr. Blair had been in poor health since January 28. BLAIR TAKEN BY DEATH Well Known West End Man Dies This Morning. Oscar Ellsworth Blair, 55 years old, of 108 New York Avenue, died this morning at 12:43 o'clock after an illness of several months. Mr. Blair had been in poor health since January 28. He was born October 11, 1866, in Sclaska County, Ohio, and had been a resident of Fort Madison since 1890. He was a member of the Santa Fe avenue M.E. Church of the Yeomen society and the Machinist' union. In 1870 he came from his birth place in Ohio to Illinois by wagon, where he lived until he came to Fort Madison in 1890. On November 19, 1889, he married Mary Elizabeth Meens of Monmouth, Ill. His parents, Alexander and Melisa Blair died in the past seven years. He has been employed as a machinist at the Santa Fe shops ever since he came to Fort Madison. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Blair, and nine children, Mrs. Ruth Cora Ort of Gregory Landing, Mo., Harry Ellsworth Blair and George Blair of fort Madison, William Arthur Blair of Burlington, Leslie Walter Blair, now with the U. S. Marine forces and stationed at Quantico, Va., and Theodore Oscar Blair, Ethan Allan Blair and Helen Mable Blair, at home in Fort Madison. One daughter died in infancy. He also leaves six grandchildren: two sisters, Cora Mauch, Lyons, Kans., and Ada White, Monmouth, Ill.: and two brothers, James V. Blair of Lyons, Kans., and Clarence L. Blair of Youngstown, Ill. Three brothers preceded him in death. The time of the funeral services will be announced later. From Fort Madison Weekly Democrat – 4-21-1922.
