Autosomal DNA testing has shown that several descendants of Oscar and his wife Sarah Jane are closely connected to the Hornberger family of Harford County, and this Julia Ewing is a perfect fit for being their known daughter Julia. No substantiating documentation for the marriage of George to Julia has been found, however, nor is it known who the parents of George were (yet). Note that Y-DNA testing of a great grandson of Oscar has shown he is definitely a member of the Scottish Clan Ewing. What became of George and Julia and their two other children, Alice and Lysander (also shown in the 1860 census), is not known. They have not been found in the 1870 census. Oscar's death certificate indicates he was born on July 10, 1870 in Harford County, MD, however his marriage license application says he was 23 years old on March 10, 1896. He was almost certainly born after the 1870 census was taken as he cannot be found in it in any county in Maryland. In the 1880 census, he is listed as a ten year old boy living as a servant in a Dinsmore household in Peach Bottom, York Co., PA. This is probably a good indication that he really was born closer to 1870 than 1873 or 1874. No estate information or other court information has been found in Harford or Cecil County, Maryland that indicates who his parents were. It should be noted that information on the death certificate is of dubious quality. It was given by a son, and there are some obvious errors. Oscar's mother is stated to be Sarah Jane Sadler. She was actually his wife. Oscar's father was stated to be Millard Ewing, but Millard was the name of Sarah Jane's father. This was either a huge coincidence, or his son confused the the names of his grandfathers. I suspect the latter. The descendant who was DNA tested shares some DNA marker mutations with known descendants of a Ewing branch with ties to Port Deposit in Cecil County.
