Her mother is "Unknown" on the certificate. Millard Sadler was married to Margaret Norris, and they can be found together in the 1880 census in Bel Air, Harford County, MD, but no child is with them. (It was taken 22 Jun 1880.) This is just one of several pieces of evidence that Margaret Norris was not Sarah Jane's mother. Other evidence includes the 1900 census listing for Margaret which indicates she did not bear any children (0 born, 0 living). Another is just the fact that Sarah's mother is listed as "Unknown" on her death certificate. In the 1930 census, the "grandmother" Margaret living with Pearl Ewing Ile is believed to be Margaret Norris Ewing, Pearl's apparent step-grandmother. When Sarah Jane died in 1925, Margaret was still alive, and she certainly would have been named on Sarah Jane's death certificate had she actually been known to be her mother. So who was Sarah Jane's mother? There are no marriage records in Harford County that indicate Millard Sadler was married prior to Margaret Norris. He also may or may not have been married to Sarah Jane's mother, so the lack of a marriage record may just be because they weren't married. Sarah Jane died on 21 April 1939, and is buried next to her youngest daughter, Dorothy, who died as a toddler.
