Services were in charge of the American Legion, with representatives from the posts of Arapahoe, Holbrook and Elwood and were held from the Methodist Church with Rev. R. A. Johnson officiating. Services were in charge of the American Legion, with representatives from the posts of Arapahoe, Holbrook and Elwood and were held from the Methodist Church with Rev. R. A. Johnson officiating. Vandruff, who saw action in four major engagements overseas, was the victim of poison gas, the results of which had gradually taken toll of his health during these past few years. Oscar Lemuel Vandruff, son of Lemuel A. and Lucretia E. Vandruff, was born November 15, 1891, in Gosper county, Nebraska, on his father's homestead eight miles north of Holbrook, where he grew to manhood. He was called to the service of his country in September, 1917, and saw active service with the 335th infantry in four major engagements. In one of these he received permanent disability from which he never fully recovered. He received his honorable discharge in January, 1919, and resumed his farming operations near Holbrook. Several years later he was united in marriage to Bernice Clow of Franklin, Nebraska. To this union was born one daughter, Marilyn Marie. He was a charter member of the Earl Ruggensees Post No. 234 of the American Legion at Holbrook. At the time of his death he was an active member of the American Legion post at Elwood. He leaves to mourn his death, besides his daughter, his mother, Mrs. L. A. Vandruff of Elwood, three brothers, C. P. and C. A. of Holbrook and B. L of Broadwater, Nebraska, four nephews, seven nieces and numerous relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, L. A. Vandruff, and his brother, Clyde.
