Description	:	OSCAR LESLIE SHAFER, 86, of Middletown, died Saturday, December 10, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Frances Routzahn Shafer who died June 6, 1993. Born in Middletown, March 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Oscar L. Sr. and Mayetta Engle Shafer. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1936. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor aboard an LST vessel. Read More	OSCAR LESLIE SHAFER, 86, of Middletown, died Saturday, December 10, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Frances Routzahn Shafer who died June 6, 1993. Born in Middletown, March 21, 1919, he was a son of the late Oscar L. Sr. and Mayetta Engle Shafer. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1936. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor aboard an LST vessel. He worked in sales most of his life primarily as a residential heating oil salesman with Exxon and later with Gladhill Furniture Co., from where he retired in 1981. He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, most of his life where he served on the church council several terms, taught senior high Sunday school for a number of years and was a member of the Finance Committee for over 30 years. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy C. Allen, Middletown; son, Ronald W. Shafer, Frederick; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Rosalyn Loughran, Stuart, Fl.; two half-sisters, Judith Kraushaar, Falling Waters, WV; Candy Inman, Williamsport; half-brother, John S. Shafer, Middletown. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Kenneth L. Shafer and Harole E. Shafer. Services were held at the Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown; interment in the church cemetery; arrangements by the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home.
