ROBE, 74, WHO LIED HERE NEARLY FIFTY YEARS DIES Oscar Newell Robe, 74, a resident of Villisca for many years died at 6:25 p.m. Thursday of last week at his home on North Fifth Avenue. He had been in failing health for several years but became seriously ill Tuesday of last week. His death was due to the infirmities of age. He is survived by his wife and one son and one daughter who are Glen Robe of Villisca and Mrs. H. L. Breckenmaker of Cumberland, Iowa. One son, Cline Newell Robe, died three years ago last July. Funeral services for Mr. Robe were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Robe home, with the Rev. Martin H. Keast, pastor of the local Methodist church, in charge. Singing was by the Villisca male quartet, composed of Judge R. J. Swanson, F. L. Means, J. H. Todd, and H. H. Nordyke. Pall bearers were Lum Higgins, W. O. Van Camp, Dick Kelley, Bert Kernene, and Joe Beaver, all of this vicinity and Jack Beavers of Clarinda. Burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery. Oscar Newell Robe was born November 29, 1857 in West Union, Adams County, Ohio. He came to Iowa in the spring of 1880 and was married March 18, 1880 to Miss Mary Edenfield. The couple began housekeeping on a farm four miles southwest of Villisca. Mr. and Mrs. Robe spent the year 1882 in Ohio, three years from 1910 to 1913 in Montana and all the rest of their married life has been spent in and near Villisca. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Robe leaves two brothers and one sister. They are David Robe who resides in Ohio; Frank Robe of South Charleston, Ohio, and Miss Sarah Robe of West Union, Ohio. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Robe of Villisca and Betty Jane Breckenmaker of Cumberland. Relatives from out of town who were here for the funeral included Mrs. Mary West and Dick Edenfield of Omaha and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Curtis of Red Oak. Villisca Review, Friday, April 22, 1932, page 4
