ANDERSON Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon for Oscar P. Anderson, formerly of Emerson, Iowa, but a resident of Council Bluffs, Iowa for the past 15 years. Mr. Anderson died at his home, Tuesday, February 5, 1944, after an illness of three years during which time he suffered several strokes. He was 83 years old last December. He was born in Sweden in 1860 and came to America when a young man. He was married in June, 1891 to Selma Anderson of Emerson and they made their home in Emerson for many years. Mr. Anderson worked on the Burlington Railroad as section foreman for several years. In 1927, he moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and was retired from the Burlington Railroad after several years of service there. He was the father of five children. Twin sons, Herbert and Harold, died in infancy, and a son Rudolph died in 1919. Mrs. Martin Dober of Humphrey, Nebraska and Francis O. Anderson of Council Bluffs with the wife survive him. Several sisters and brothers preceded him in death. There are two grandchildren, Maxine, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Richard with the U. S. Army, children of Rudolph Anderson, both of whom were present Saturday. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Emerson Methodist Church having joined in 1921. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson observed their golden wedding anniversary three years ago, very quietly at their home in Council Bluffs at which time, Mr. Anderson's health had begun to fail. He was a cheerful disposition and jolly by nature. Visitors in the home during his illness always received a cheery welcome from him. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Cutler Funeral home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Rev. Grigsby had charge of the services in the Methodist Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. John Thorson, Mrs. Hebe Edie, Frederick Larson, and Ray Fields. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. M. D. Lang and Mrs. W. L. Honeyman. Pallbearers, Chester and Oscar Dagerman of Nebraska, Ed Rosewall of Omaha, Nebraska, Carl Carlson of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Vernon Johnson and Geroge Thorson of Emerson, Iowa. Burial was in the family lost in the Emerson Cemetery. Those from a distance attending the funeral were Richard Anderson of Long Beach, California, Mrs. O. P. Anderson, Francis Anderson, and Mrs. Mable Montgomery of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mrs. Stella Domber of Humphrey, Nebraska, Carl Anderson of Storm Lake, Mrs. Merle Hanna and daughter of Des Moines, Iowa, and Oscar Dagerman of Omaha, Nebraska.
