Description	:	Otis Brewer Cooley, "Bugs", was born on November 6, 1904, in Tie Siding, Wyoming, to Arthur B. and Blanch (Brewer) Cooley. In 1900, Bug's parents traveled from their home in Jewell, Kansas to Colorado and Wyoming by covered wagon. Following this trip, his parents relocated to Tie Siding, Wyoming, where they had purchased a cattle ranch. It was here that Bugs was born. His father, Arthur,... Read More	Otis Brewer Cooley, "Bugs", was born on November 6, 1904, in Tie Siding, Wyoming, to Arthur B. and Blanch (Brewer) Cooley. In 1900, Bug's parents traveled from their home in Jewell, Kansas to Colorado and Wyoming by covered wagon. Following this trip, his parents relocated to Tie Siding, Wyoming, where they had purchased a cattle ranch. It was here that Bugs was born. Around 1907, the family relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where they operated The St. Julian Hotel for a short time. Bugs and his family finally settled in the San Luis Valley, Colorado. His father, Arthur, owned a mercantile and managed a farm in Mosca. When Arthur became Alamosa County’s first Public Assessor, the family lived part time in Alamosa where Bugs attended school. Bugs married Alice Charlotte Wilson on 11 Apr 1925 in Mosca, Colorado. They had four children together, Robert Ray, Billy Lee, Bonnie Jean, and Bonnie Faye. He managed a farm implement store in downtown Alamosa for years. His son, Robert Ray "Bobby" served in the U.S. Navy as a fireman in WWII, where he was killed in action in Japan near the end of the war. Tragedy struck again when his wife, Alice, passed away in 1960. Bugs later married Thelma Ruth Calkins in Alamosa, Colorado. He died on June 5, 1987, in Embudo, New Mexico, at the age of 82, and was buried in Monte Vista, Colorado. Bugs was well-respected in his community and deeply loved by his family.
