Description	:	Arthur B. Cooley was born December 6, 1869, in St. Clair County, Missouri, to parents James Maxwell Cooley and Nancy Lucinda (Earnest) Cooley. He moved to Jewell, Kansas in 1881, where he and Blanch (Brewer) began their married life together on October 7, 1891. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters. Two of the daughters passed away as infants in Jewell. In 1900, Arthur's extended family traveled from their home in Jewell to Colorado and Wyoming by covered wagon. Cooley was born December 6, 1869, in St. Clair County, Missouri, to parents James Maxwell Cooley and Nancy Lucinda (Earnest) Cooley. He moved to Jewell, Kansas in 1881, where he and Blanch (Brewer) began their married life together on October 7, 1891. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters. Two of the daughters passed away as infants in Jewell. In 1900, Arthur's extended family traveled from their home in Jewell to Colorado and Wyoming by covered wagon. During this trip, he decided to move their family to Tie Siding, Wyoming, where they purchased a cattle ranch. Around 1907, the family relocated to Boulder, Colorado, where they purchased and ran The St. Julian Hotel. Arthur finally settled in the San Luis Valley, Colorado, where he lived in Mosca (Alamosa County), Colorado from 1911 until his death. Arthur and his oldest son, Sam owned a mercantile in Mosca and the family managed a farm. He became Alamosa County’s first Public Assessor, which required the family to live part time in Alamosa. He was well-respected in his community, serving in organizations such as the East Side Stock Protective Association. Arthur passed away unexpectedly in 1917. His funeral was conducted at family home in Mosca, officiated by Rev. G.S. Darley. Blanch accompanied his remains back to Jewell, Kansas, where a second funeral was held before he was laid to rest in Wallace Cemetery. We are grateful for a life well-lived.
