Schaub Kleindienst and died September 1, 1977 after a long illness. He was joined in marriage to Wanda Overman on July 16, 1957. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Oscar; a sister, Viola, and a son Darwin. He is survived by his widow, Wanda; sons Edward and Cary and a daughter, Marsha Shrimpton of Omaha and two grandchildren, Chad E. Kleindienst and Reace L. Shrimpton, there sisters, Nixie A. Stoops and Fannie M. Pierce, both of Omaha, and Velma M. White of Malvern, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. Otis spent most of his life in Villisca, except for time spent in the military during World War 11. As a member of the Nation Guard he was mobilized with Co. F from Villisca and was assigned to the 133rd Regiment of the 34th Division in January 1941, at the age of 17. He was assigned to the active duty and following month and after spending four months in boot camp training served in Tunisia and Italy. He was seriously wounded on the Anzio Beachhead in June 1944 and spent 27 months in Military Hospitals before being honorably discharged from Fitzsiminons General Hospital in Denver Colorado in November 1946. Otis received the Purple Heart, European African Middle East Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Medal, and the World War 11 Victory Medal. He also qualified for commendation for service above and beyond the call of duty. Funeral services were arranged by and held at the Sutphen Funeral Home, September 3, 1977, with Rev. Melvin White. Flower bearers were Mrs. Ralph Briggs, Mrs. Charles Coy, and Mrs. Steve Marsh. Music was by Mrs. Robert Harris and accompanied by Martin Hentsch. The musical selections was, "In The Garden" and a special recording. Mrs. Merl McKinley was in charge of the registry. Casket bearers wer Joe Morrison, Charles Coy, Ralph Briggs, Merl McKinley, Den Archer, and Fay Clark. Interment with full military services, conducted by the American Legion and National Guard was in the Villisca, Iowa, Cemetery.
