At the time of his enlistment in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Otis gave his occupation as farmer. On 30 Jul 1861 Otis mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. Gothie, 21, daughter of Lewis Gothie, at Washington, District of Columbia. On 5 Jul 1879 in the "Webster Times", Webster, MA, Otis F. Hoyle was mentioned in the report on the 12th annual reunion of Company E, 15th Massachusetts Infantry. He applied for a veteran's pension on 8 Aug 1879, and received certificate number 236605. He and Melvina were enumerated in the 1880 US Federal census on 7 Jun 1880 at Worcester, MA. Melvina died 8 Jul 1898. On 17 Oct 1904 Otis F. Hoyle, 67, married Jane E. Morse, daughter of Joseph P. Morse and Lucinda Gouthey, at Boston, MA, in a second marriage for both. Otis F. Hoyle died on 18 Dec 1915 at Millbury, MA. He was 78 years and 9 months old. On 7 Oct 1916 Jane received a widow's pension based on Otis' service.
