OTTILIE BRAUER- Ottilie Brauer, daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina Jaekel Brauer, was born August 5th, 1888. She passed away Sunday, January 28, 1979, at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital. She was born on the farm, now owned by the Galen Haug family, two miles east and two miles north of Steinauer, Nebr. It was there that she grew into young womanhood and decided on teaching for her goal in life. She continued in this line of work for most of her active years. For a few years she taught in Nebraska, then moved to Montana, where she taught in Dillon and Missoula. Then returned to Nebraska, when her sister, Minnie passed away. She then taught school in Steinauer and Table Rock Public schools until she retired. After retirement she was very active in her community, busy with church activities and Eastern Star Lodge. She was always willing to help any one she could. In August of 1978 an open house was held honoring her 90th birthday and her years of unselfish devotion to others through those years. She moved to Maple Grove Home near Tecumseh, Nebr., in November , 1978. On January 18, 1979 she was stricken with a heart attack and moved to the Pawnee County Hospital. She never regained consciousness again before her demise on January 28, 1979. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Wilhelmina Brauer, three sisters, Augusta, Minnie and Adeline and three brothers, Henry, Herman and John Brauer. Tillie as she was best known is survived by six nieces and nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews, and thirteen great great nieces and nephews and a host of friends who will miss her greatly. Funeral services were held Thursday February 1, 1979 at 2:30 P>M> at Wherry Brothers Mortuary in Pawnee City. Officiating was Rev. Roy Stewart. Pallbearers were Wilmer Melichar, Robert Gyhra, Millard Wenzl, Robert Schmit, Paul Schmit and Howard Summerhalder. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ross Thiemann, organist and Mrs. John Wherry soloist with "In the Garden" and "When I take my Vacation in Heaven." Interment was in the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska. =========================================================================== TABLE ROCK ARGUS, Oct. 30, 1969. TILLIE BRAUER TO BE HONORED FRIDAY Miss Tillie Brauer, Steinauer, who has many decades of serving in the teaching profession before retiring over a year ago, will be honored by the Steinauer community on Friday, October 31, at the Pawnee County Community Action Center from 2:00-4:00 o'clock. Miss Brauer planned to retire from teaching way back in 1944 after a teaching career in Idaho, Montana and Nebraska, but the acute teacher shortage prompted her to help out in the Steinauer school for the next 22 years, where she served as superintendent for much of that span. When the Steinauer school closed, she was asked to help our in math instruction in Table Rock, where she taught for the next 3 years before finally retiring in 1968. All of Miss Brauer's many friends, including former students, are invited to help honor her Friday afternoon.
