Description	:	Otto Ernfried Nelson was the third child of eleven children born to Nils Nilsson and Nilsdotter Carlsson. Otto was born in Vollsjo, Sweden and emigrated to the United States with his parents when he was one year old and returned to Sweden with his parents when he was nine yrs. old. At the age of seventeen, he emigrated again to the United States arriving in New York aboard the Lusitania on April 10, 1908. Otto was born in Vollsjo, Sweden and emigrated to the United States with his parents when he was one year old and returned to Sweden with his parents when he was nine yrs. old. At the age of seventeen, he emigrated again to the United States arriving in New York aboard the Lusitania on April 10, 1908. The ships manifest indicated that he was going to a relative or friend in Ortonville, Minnesota and that he had in his possession ten dollars. He was going to Peter G. Nelson home and also to the home of Otto Mathew Carlson. The left hand picture shows the close relationship of these 3 first cousins. On November 22, 1916 he married Ruby Hattie Hjort (January 9, 1899-July 2, 1953). Ruby, the daughter of Nels and Cecilia Edmunds Hjort of Kenmare, North Dakota, was born in Lake Elizabeth, Minnesota. Her profession was that of a school teacher. After their marriage, Otto and Ruby lived and farmed the Arvid Erickson farm in Bowbells Township, Burke County, North Dakota before purchasing a farm in Elmdale Township west of Kenmare, North Dakota. They had three children: Leroy, Marlys, and Carol.
