Mr. Ossana was born December 9, 1915 in Arma, Kansas the son of Otto Louis and Lena Bertha Ott Ossana. Otto lived in Arma most of his life and graduated from Arma High School. During his life, Otto was quite the entrepreneur. In high school, he and his brother, Joe, would butcher pigs and worked for their father in the family grocery store and meat market. During World War II, Otto worked for Boeing Air Craft in Wichita before returning to Arma to begin his own mechanics business. He owned and operated the Ossana Motor Company in Arma, as well as built the family restaurant, the Double 00 Drive Inn, that he and Jessie operated for 17 years. In the 1960s Otto ran a Texaco Service Station at Forest and Broadway in Pittsburg. Also during that time, he worked as an insurance agent. Before retiring, Otto worked for the State of Kansas as a restaurant inspector. After retiring, Otto, with Jessie by his side, loved working in his garden, going fishing, and gambling at the casinos. Every year he and Jessie would plant more than enough tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and watermelon for family and friends. Otto also loved working with wood and each year he and Jessie would build craft items for everyone in the family. Otto was an avid sports fan. He loved attending all of his children's and grandchildren's activities. He and Jessie loved attending all PSU football and basketball games and were the happiest when celebrating with family and friends. Otto married Jessie Timi on August 11, 1940 at Arma. Mrs. Ossana survives at Via Christi Village. He was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church and the Eagles Lodge. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Otto is survived by two sons, Otto "Butch" Ossana and his wife Janice of Overland Park, Kansas and James "Jim" Ossana and his wife Marlene of Pittsburg, one daughter, Rebecca "Becky" Leek and her husband Joe of Pittsburg, three sisters, Clara Matson of Shell Knob, Missouri, Mary Morrison of Arma, and Louise Casaletto of Pittsburg, seven grandchildren, Gina Sublette, Tami Brooks, Jason Ossana, Shannon Ossana, Cory Ossana, Chris Loftin and Joy Holmes, ten great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandfather, John Christian Ott, a brother, Joe Ossana, and two sisters, Lena Bartelli and Emma Hartshorn. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Jim Akins officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday. The family suggests memorials to Angels Among Us. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.
