Mrs. Ossana was born October 18, 1918, in Arma, Kansas, the daughter of Joe, Sr. and Vincenza Cerioni Timi. Jessie was a retired school teacher, business woman and homemaker. She was raised at Camp 50 and graduated from Arma High School in 1936. She attended Kansas State Teachers College (PSU) and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a degree in Business Education, and a degree in Library Science. Jessie taught 30 years including Camp 50 school, Arma Elementary, and Arma (Northeast) High School, retiring in 1983. In addition to teaching, Jessie was a business entrepreneur beginning with her early watermelon stands, fireworks stands and finally creating and operating the family restaurant, the Double OO Drive In in Arma for 20 years. Jessie enjoyed doing anything for family and friends — she was known for her Italian cooking especially her delicious lasagna and coffee cakes and loved having large family celebrations. She also loved traveling with her family, working outdoors, canning all the vegetables they raised in their gardens and making trips to the casinos. Jessie and Otto loved attending all of their children's and grandchildren's activities and were avid sports fans of the PSU Gorillas. She was a member of the Arma United Methodist Church. Jessie married Otto Ossana on August 11, 1940, at Arma. Mr. Ossana preceded her in death on April 3, 2010. Jessie is survived by two sons, Otto "Butch" Ossana and his wife Janice of Overland Park, and James "Jim" Ossana and his wife Marlene of Pittsburg; one daughter Rebecca "Becky" Leek and husband Joe of Pittsburg; seven grandchildren, Gina Sublette (Bill), Tami Brooks (Richard), Jason Ossana, Cory Ossana (Pam), Shannon Ossana (Mandy), Chris Loftin (Ashley) and Joy Holmes (Brodie); 11 great-grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews and friends. In addition to her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Bruce Allen Ossana; six sisters, Jennie Timi, Katie Nepote, Jennie Ciardullo, Annie Zwahlen, Lucy Collins, and Iolanda Blazic; and two brothers, Pete Timi and Joe Timi Jr. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with the Rev. Jim Akins officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsburg Garden of Memories Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedene Chapel in Arma where friends may call after 11 a.m. Tuesday. The family suggests memorials to the JCPRD Rangers Special Olympics because of her grandson's involvement with Special Olympics. Donations may be left at or sent to the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, KS 66712.
