OVAL MEARS DIED SATURDAY Mrs. Oval Mears, highly esteemed Crisfield matron, who had been making her home with her son, Jennings B. Mears in Salisbury for some months, died in the Maple Shade Nursing Home near Delmar, where she had been a patient for a short time, last Saturday, at the age of 79 years. She was born in Crisfield the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Jane Travers Laird and the widow of the late John T. Mears. Mrs. Mears was a woman of fine personality, of charm and grace, and has been a devoted wife and mother, a family woman who still found time to be a good neighbor and friend, endearing herself to everyone who knew her. She was consistently regular in her attendance at her church, Mt. Pleasant Methodist, and took a prominent part in its affairs for many years. The Christian religion was to her something to live by and to share its goodness with others. She exemplified the finer things in womanhood, and friendship was to her like a beautiful flower, to admire and nurture. Funeral services were held here at 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon in the Bradshaw - Covington Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. A. B. Frye, pastor of Asbury Methodist Church in Salisbury, assisted by the Rev. A. T. McFarland, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Burial was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
