Memorial service will be Thurs., March 19, 2015 at 10:30 am at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with services concluding at the funeral home. Pat was born June 12, 1932 in Denver, CO. She was adopted at a very young age by her parents Russell and Dorothy Eddy of Sterling, CO. She grew up "in town", the expression used in our family to differentiate between living in the country, our farm, and living "in town". Pat attended schools in Sterling, where she graduated in May 1949. The stories she told her children of her memories growing up were always interesting. With her witty sense of humor, she could always make you laugh, as she relayed her tales of childhood. Pat married Robert "Bob" Ruff on November 22, 1950. She was actually dating a friend of Bob's when she realized she was falling in love with him. With her usual sense of humor, she stated "I fell in love with the back of your father's head, because I was always riding in the back seat of his car with my date!" To this marriage, was born five children. Bob and Pat both loved children and wanted a large family. They raised their children on the family farm. Bob and Pat provided their children with the best they could give, sacrificing whatever was needed. Pat enjoyed playing the piano, and was quite an accomplished pianist. Her mother, Dorothy Eddy, was a piano teacher in the Sterling area, as well as playing the pipe organ at the First Presbyterian Church for many years during the 1930's, 40's and 50's. Pat also enrolled in and completed an individual study program of the New York Art Institute. Pat completed her art projects at home and mailed them in, receiving her grades by mail as well. She graduated as one of the top students in her class, and continued to do artwork for several years after. Pat's hobbies included art, reading, gardening, bird watching and traveling with Bob preferably driving so they could enjoy the scenery. She loved animals and was a member of the U.S. Humane Society all her adult life, as well as an avid supporter of the preservation of any type of wildlife, aquatic and land animals. Pat also donated to many children's funds around the world that dealt with hunger, abuse and medical illness. It was her nature to give to anyone who was in need. She had a heart of gold. Pat is survived by her children, sons Mark Ruff, Fred Ruff, John Ruff and wife Lynnette, all of Sterling; and daughters, Chris Campbell and husband Barry of Elko, NV and Jeni Porter and husband Greg of Sterling. She also has four grandchildren, Daniel Ruff of Fleming, Sarah Ruff of Sterling, Verity Blackburn and husband Stephen of Trinidad, CO and Joshua Bondegard of Elko, NV. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Dorothy Eddy, a brother James Eddy and husband Robert Ruff. Quote: "The death of a mother is the first sorrow wept without her." Author Unknown.
