ALSO: Patrick Elward was born in Amesbury, Mass., March 13, 1873. He was brought to Nebraska by his parents when he was five years old. He has lived in Nebraska ever since except several years spent in Deadwood, S. D. He and Luella Bell were united in wedlock March 1, 1899. To this union were born two sons, Melvin James, who passed to the great beyond November 6, 1930, and Mervil. Three brothers have answered the last great call. Mr. Elward was widely known and was a friend to all, being kindly, friendly and neighborly, always sympathetic. He was a help to those who knew him. He laid his burden down and answered the last call at 2 p.m. august 21, 1933, aged 60 years, 5 months and 8 days. Although he was ailing for some time, he never gave up and was bedfast but a few days. He leaves to mourn, a loving wife and his son Mervil of this community, two sisters, Catherine McCloud and Mayme Elward, and one brother, Mike Elward all of Los Angeles, two grandchildren, Melvin Eugene and Genevieve Elward, whose father was called away from their young lives, other relatives, together with a host of friends and acquaintances of those many years. The funeral service was held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, August 23 in the home. A large circle of friends gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased. The service was conducted by Rev. A. M. Small, pastor of the United Brethren Church of Strang. The body was laid to rest in the Geneva Cemetery by the side of his son Melvin. The deceased will be sadly missed in the community as he always had a cheerful, pleasing word for everyone. Strang and vicinity join in extending sympathy to the family.
