Description	:	Paul Bradford Ross was the son of William S. and Norna Ross. He was born in Ellensburg, Washington in 1922. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on September 29, 1942 in Tacoma for the duration of World War II. His enlistment record indicated he was 71 inches tall and weighed 140 pounds. He had just been discharged from the Army and had just married his sweetheart Wiladean Lamb. It was in the fall and he and his brother Dean were plowing on the farm. Paul was riding on the plow to set the depth and Dean was driving the tractor. Paul heard a pheasant and went to the house to get a shotgun. When they resumed plowing and finally saw the pheasant Paul attempted to get off of the plow and somehow the gun discharged into his chest. Ross, 24, well-known West Side youth and Kittitas valley native, was fatally injured yesterday afternoon when he was struck in the left breast by a charge from his accidentally-discharged weapon. Rushed to the Ellensburg General hospital, the young Army veteran died barely 10 minutes after his admission. A "very severe chest wound in the region of the heart, and shock." caused death, the attending physician, Dr. Robert Welding, reported. The accident occurred at the family home in the Cove district. Ross and a brother, Dean Ross, were plowing and spotted a Chinese pheasant. Paul went to the farm house to obtain a shotgun and mounted the tractor behind his brother, who was driving the vehicle. When another pheasant was sighted, he reached for the shotgun, which he had placed beside him on the vehicle. He tried to bring the gun up swfitly but it became entangled in the machinery and discharged, the shot striking him in the left breast. The son of pioneer West Side parents, Mr. and Mrs. William S. Ross, the youth graduated from the Ellensburg High school in 1941 and served as a corporal in the 759th Basic flying training squadron in the Army. He is survived by his parents; his wife, Mrs. Wiladine Lamb Ross to whom he was married a month ago; two brothers, Dean and William E., and a sister, Mrs. Guy Smith, all of Ellensburg; and another sister, Mrs. Claude Dean of Spokane. Funeral serivces will be held Monday at 10 o'clock at the Honeycutt chapel, with the Rev. Herbert W. Guscott officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
