Description	:	Paul Voss (1898 - 1994) Paul Voss was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, January 15, 1898, the son of Ernest and Rosa Rath Voss. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison when he was an infant and confirmed in his Christian faith there in his teenage years. Read More	Paul Voss (1898 - 1994) Paul Voss was born on a farm in Goodrich Township, Crawford County, Iowa, January 15, 1898, the son of Ernest and Rosa Rath Voss. He was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison when he was an infant and confirmed in his Christian faith there in his teenage years. He was raised on the family farm and received his formal education in the rural schools in Goodrich Township. Following his schooling he was employed by area farmers. On December 9, 1923, Paul was united in marriage with Amanda Jensen by the Rev. William Frese at the Zion Lutheran parsonage in Denison. They farmed in Goodrich Township until 1945 when they moved to Schleswig and operated a cafe for a number of years. Later Paul was employed at the bowling alley in Schleswig and following his retirement he helped area farmers. Amanda entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in 1985 and Paul remained at home in Schleswig making almost daily trips to visit her. In 1989 he moved to Eventide Senior Housing in Denison where he had since resided. Although having no children of their own, Paul greatly enjoyed being around children and sharing his friendship and knowledge with them. In his spare time he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, socializing with family and friends and card playing. Paul and Amanda shared over seventy years of marriage before her death occurred April 20th of this year. Paul died July 8, 1994 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 96 years, 5 months and 23 days. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Including his parents and his wife, Amanda, Paul was preceded in death by sixteen brothers and sisters, Emma Atzen, Bertha Atzen, Anna Atzen, Chris Voss, John Voss, Fred Voss, Rose Jurgensen, Ernest Voss, Martin Voss, Ella Namanny, Emil Voss, Minnie Paulsen, Roy Voss, Edward Voss, Edna Voss and Lillie Boeck. Those who remain to cherish his memory include three sisters-in-law, Angeline Voss of Sibley, Iowa, Lucinda Hunt of Seal Beach, California and Leona Jensen of Storm Lake, Iowa, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 12, 1994, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Wagner officiating. Music for the service was provided by Larry and Katie Boeck singing "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and the congregation singing "Old Rugged Cross" and "Heaven Is My Home". Marlene Hight served as organist. Honorary bearers were Paul's nieces, Burnette Hough, Maxine Krueger, Ruby Johannsen, Mabel Luth, Darlene Baichtal, Junabell Maak, Edeline Jorgensen, Lorraine Buss, Shirlene Johnson, Marlene Chris-tensen, Bonnie Ewoldt, and Vicki Bruner. Casket bearers were his nepnews, Erwin Voss, Gilbert Voss, Virgil Boeck, Gaylord Boeck, Lewis Namanny, Robert Namanny and Donald Namanny. Interment was in the Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
