Louther Saturday Funeral services for Paul K. Louther, who passed away from a heart attack last Wednesday about noon, were held from the Louther chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The entire service was the beautiful and impressive Masonic service. The entire community was shocked when last Wednesday when news of his sudden death in the post office flashed over our little city. Mr. Louther had not been in good health for the past year or more, but very few realized that his condition was serious as he was carrying on his usual activities in his own business and also on the rationing board. He will be badly missed by the entire community. Paul K. Louther was born at Parsons, Kansas, on May 16, 1890, and was nearly 54 years of age. He attended high school at St. Joe, Missouri, and before coming to Montana he was employed for some time by the Santa Fe railroad in Kansas City, Mo. Mr. Louther's father came to Fort Benton in 1913, and Mrs. Louther and the family arrived in 1914, but Paul remained there and when the time arrived enlisted in the world war and went into the air corps and served as a pilot. After 18 months of service, during which time he was advanced to the rank of lieutenant, he was discharged from the service, and came to Montana and Fort Benton in 1919, and has since resided here. During all these years he was active in the officer's reserve corps. After coming to Fort Benton he was employed in the office of the clerk of the district court for some time, and later served as a clerk in the county clerk's office, having charge of the tax deed records in that office. He was united in marriage on June 2, 1922, to Miss Irene Fleming, and to this union one son was born, A1C William Louther, who is now an aviation cadet with the army air force stationed at Santa Ana, Calif. For several years after the death of his father, W. H. Louther, in 1922, he assisted his mother with the undertaking business and upon her death in 1928, he took over the business and operated it until his death. At the start of the government work program a few years ago Mr. Louther was county administrator of this program for a number of months and looked after much of the WPA work details in this county. He was appointed as secretary of the Chouteau county selective service board in July 1942, and also named chairman of the rationing board. He resigned from the selective service and devoted his spare time as chairman of the rationing board, as well as taking care of the undertaking business. For a number of years now he has served as county coroner, an elective position. Last year he was elected as secretary of the Montana Embalmer's Association. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, the Scottish Rite of Great Falls, and charter member of the Fort Benton Kiwanis Club. He leaves to mourn his untimely death the widow and son; one brother, Lt. Col. Carl K. Louther, of the U. S. Marine corps in Washington, D. C.; one sister, Mrs. Merlin McLeish, of Lemoore, Calif.; four aunts, Mrs. Mary Gates, Mrs. Jennie Grove, Mrs. Augusta Romig and Mrs. Hariett McDermid, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The body was laid to rest in the Louther family plot in Riverside cemetery.
