KIRKPATRICK Paul Preston Kirkpatrick, son of John A. and Mary Ellen Kirkpatrick, was born Oct. 6, 1898, at Pawnee City. He grew to manhood here, attending the public school and taking part in community activities. He served in the armed forces of our country in the first World war. Except for three years spent at Janesville, Wisc., he lived continuously at Pawnee City until 1936, when he moved to Torrington, Wyo. and began work for the Holly Sugar Co. July 24, 1929, he was united in marriage to Eva May Smith at Pawnee City, and to this union three children were born, one daughter and two sons. To this family he was ever the devoted husband and father. Mr. Kirkpatrick was greatly interested in the welfare of the community in which he lived and always took an active part in its affairs. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and the Masonic lodge at Pawnee City, and served in the highest offices of the latter organization. He was deputy county clerk of Pawnee county for nine years. In Torrington he was a member of troop E of the Wyoming state guard. During the past year he served as air raid warden in Torrington and also gave his interest and support to Boy Scout work, including work with Cubs, and took part in other community activities. Last spring Mr. Kirkpatrick began to feel unwell, but it was not until July 4 that he went to the Veterans hospital at Cheyenne for examination and treatment. A short time later he was sent to Hines hospital in Chicago, and considerably later to Cheyenne, where he died Oct 4, 1943, lacking only two days of being 45 years of age. He is survived by his wife and their children, Robert Paul, John Allen,, and Margaret Ann. all of Torrington; two sisters, Miss Florence Kirkpatrick of Kansas City and Mrs. Vena Gifford of Pawnee City; three brothers, W. S. of Decatur, Ga., Virgil of St. Joseph, Mo., and Adrian J. f Oskaloosa, Iowa; other relatives and many friends. The brother, Adrian, is now in the Aleutian Islands. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Pawnee City Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. N. Wallis, and burial was in the Pawnee City cemetery. Paul Kirkpatrick, 45, of Torrington, Wyo., passed away at the Veteran Hospital in Cheyenne, Wyo., Monday. The shocking news that the former Pawnee City man was fatally ill, reached here only a few days ago. Paul was born and grew to manhood in Pawnee City and with his family moved to Torrington in 1937. Following his graduation from high school, he enlisted in the coast artillery. After the war he was employed at Havelock, Nebr., and Janesville, Wisc., returning to Pawnee City to serve as deputy clerk for eight years. During his residence here he was active in civic and public affairs, and was a member of the Masonic lodge. Surviving are his wife, three children, Robert, John and Margaret Ann; three brothers, Will of Atlanta, Ga.; Virgil of St. Joseph, Mo.; and Adrian of Oskaloosa, Ia.; and at present in the Aleutian Islands; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Gifford of Pawnee City and Florence, of Kansas City, Mo. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Presbyterian church, in charge of Rev. H. A. Thompson. Services will also be held at Torrington, Thursday afternoon.
