He was baptized and confirmed Feb. 6, 1946 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, NE. He graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, KS. with the Class of 1942. Jeff served his country in the U.S. Army from his enlistment April 20, 1943 to his honorable discharge on Nov. 23, 1945. He was baptized and confirmed Feb. 6, 1946 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, NE. He graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, KS. with the Class of 1942. Jeff served his country in the U.S. Army from his enlistment April 20, 1943 to his honorable discharge on Nov. 23, 1945. He served in Central Europe and was wounded in action in the Rhineland on Nov. 30, 1944. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart, WW II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Jeff was united in marriage ot Donna Belle Peters on Aug. 29, 1946 at the St. Peters Lutheran Church Elk Creek, NE. To this union 2 children were born Paul Rae and Ross D. He was a farm equipment dealer/owner. Jeff passed away at his home in Canon city, CO. on June 21, 2013 at the age of 88 years. Jeff was survived by his wife Donna who he was married to for 66 years. his daughter Paul Rae Norman of Canon City, CO. son and wife Ross D. and Susan L. Jeffery of Canon City, CO. 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. sisters, Marcia Luthi and husband Dale of Gridley, KS. sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennie May Decker of Topeka, KS. Willa Jean Rottman of Humboldt, Betty and Glen Lippold of Pawnee City, Juanita Peters of Elk Creek, Royce and Sheila Petrs of Elk Creek and Diane and Richard Grabow of Cedar, MN. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lydia. brothers, Wayne, Merlin and Eddie, sisters, Mary Shultz, Betty Rohr and infant sister Marjory May. Nephew, Craig Peters and brothers-in-law Harry Rottman and LeRoy Peters. Funeral services held at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church rural Elk Creek, NE. on June 27, 2013 with Rev. Robert Schermbeck officiating. Loretta Kerchal organist. Pallbearers: Steve Chisholm, Larry Jeffery, Matt Norman, Harley Partridge, Curtis Peters and Jeff Peters. Honorary pallbearers were: Brad and Steve Peek, David Jeffery, Tim Ross, Gayle Lippold and Bruce Haughton, Interment was in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery with full military rites by the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Tracy Bates American Legion Post #370 of Elk Creek.
