Paul was born in Eureka, KS on December 30, 1940 to the union of Vaney Cecil Reed and Pauline O. (Crabtree) Reed. He grew up in Eureka and El Dorado, KS. Reed Sr.*, age 74 of Oswego, passed away at his home at 12:45 AM on August 16, 2015 surrounded by family. Paul was born in Eureka, KS on December 30, 1940 to the union of Vaney Cecil Reed and Pauline O. (Crabtree) Reed. He grew up in Eureka and El Dorado, KS. Paul worked as a millwright at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. He also worked as a maintenance mechanic at B.F. Goodrich in Miami, OK, and later, as a Custodian at McCune Grade School for 11 years, before retiring in 2003. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a 32nd Degree Shriner, and a Noble in the Mizra Shrine. He enjoyed animals, planting trees, and other yardwork. His lawn was his pride and joy. He was a very kind and loving man. One of his favorite saying was “Nobody will ever know in 100 years”. Paul married Willa D. Durbin on June 7, 1977 in Miami, OK. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons, Paul Reed Jr. of Cherryvale, KS, Michael Allen Reed of Altamont, KS, and Steven Randal Reed of Cherryvale; one daughter, Cynethia Deann Reynolds (husband, John) of Shreveport, LA; five step-children, Bill L. Bunn of Grove, OK, Carolyn Plant (husband, Johnny) of Amarillo, TX, Roman Bunn (wife, Christine) of Amarillo, Virginia Bunn of Altamont, and Anita Sailsbury (husband,Lonnie) of Parsons, KS; two brothers, John Reed (wife, Pat) of Hamilton, KS, and Marion Reed (wife, DeAnn) of Glenwood, TX; one sister, Ruth Ann Onions of Kansas City, KS; fourteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Melvin Reed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 from 6:30-7:30 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego. Following the visitation, Mr. Reed will be taken for cremation, and later buried at McCune Cemetery. No memorial services are planned at this time. She was born Nov. 8, 1920, at Jenks, Okla., to Marion and Bessie Crabtree. The family moved frequently with her father's job and eventually settled in Madison, where she graduated from high school in 1936. Until 1943, she was a waitress at the Sunflower Café at Madison. She married Vaney Reed at Eureka on April 19, 1943. They moved throughout south central Kansas with Mr. Reed's job, finally settling in Hamilton. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include four sons, Paul Reed of McCune, John Reed of Hamilton, Melvin Reed of Olpe and Marion Reed of Glenwood, Iowa; a daughter, Ruth Onion of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Lloyd Crabtree of Iola; three sisters, Lola Sherman and Ann Jardot, both of Hamilton, and Phillis Hare of Eureka; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Campbell-Kelley Funeral Home at Eureka with Pastor Tom Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery at Eureka.
