He grew up in Sidney, Iowa, where he attended grade school and graduated from Sidney High School in 1942. Rowe, 79, of Omaha died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley. Rowe was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Sterling. He grew up in Sidney, Iowa, where he attended grade school and graduated from Sidney High School in 1942. After school, he served in the U.S. Navy, spending time aboard ship and also stationed in California. He married Irene Jordan while in the Navy on April 14, 1945, in Sidney, Iowa. They raised their family in Sidney and in Ithaca, and in 1953, moved to Valley. In later years they would move to Modale, Iowa, and spend winters in Texas and then to Omaha. After the Navy, he farmed with his brother-in-law before working as a mechanic, spending the last 19 years at Valmont Industries in Valley until he retired in 1989. Survivors include: his wife; four sons, Dick (and wife, Pat) Rowe, Tom (and wife, Lynnell) Rowe and Bill Rowe, all of Valley, and Denny (and wife, Connie) Rowe of Winslow; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by siblings. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkhorn with the Rev. Harold Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn. Memorials have been established to American Legion Post 58 and the Valley Rescue Squad.
