Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. Paula Ann Kunkel was born July 3, 1927 on the family farm south of Le Mars, the daughter of Andrew and Rose (Ruppert) Kunkel. She attended grade school at St. Catherine School in Oyens and graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Le Mars. Following high school, she went to work at the elevator in Oyens. She was united in marriage to Robert Cronin on May 1, 1950 at St. Catherine Catholic Church. Early on, they made their home on a farm south of Oyens. In 1962, she went to work as the postmaster for Post Office in Oyens. In 1982, they moved to Oyens. Paula retired from the Post Office in 1987. She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Oyens, serving in the guild for many years. She was also a longtime member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Christian Mothers. Through the years, she enjoyed card club, playing scrabble and marbles, and traveling. She also enjoyed reading Harlequin Romances, cross stitching, knitting, and gardening. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband of over 62 years, Robert of Oyens; her children: a son: Dave (Karen) Cronin of Lincoln, NE, and their children: Nate (Suzie) Cronin, Katelan (Dan) Haden and their daughter, Monica, and Tyler Cronin; a daughter: Kathy Kruger of Le Mars, IA; a son: Dan (Cheryl) Cronin of Le Mars and their children: Keith and Kari Cronin; a son: Steve (Paula) Cronin of Le Mars and their children: Cassie Madsen and her son, Kolby, Meggan Cronin and Amanda Cronin; a brother: Don Kunkel of Le Mars; her sisters: Jean (Ralph) Niehus of Le Mars and Rosemary (Ralph) Thorpe of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son: Richard Cronin; her sisters: Delores Kunkel and Norma Diederich; and a brother: Larry Kunkel. [Source: Carlsen Funeral Homes]
