Gazette, The (Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, IA) - Sunday, June 12, 2011 Pauline Hanshaw Roush, 94, of Keystone Cedars in Cedar Rapids, died June 9, 2011. Services will be at Crist Mortuary, Boulder, Colo., with burial next to her husband at Mountain View Cemetery in Boulder. Pauline was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Selma, Iowa, the oldest of four daughters of the late Wilbur and Loie (Webster) Hanshaw. She married Hubert Roush on June 30, 1946, in Keosauqua. She was valedictorian of the 1935 graduating class of Douds Leando High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield. Pauline was an independent woman and traveled to Hanford, Wash., to work during World War II. She was also a rural schoolteacher and then assistant county superintendent. Pauline and her husband owned the Gamble Store in Burlington for a number of years and she worked at Younkers Department Store, retiring after 15 years. Pauline was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, and she will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Roush Neill of Broomfield, Colo.; her son, Wayne (Nancy) Roush of Hiawatha; her grandson, Travis (Elizabeth) Neill of Golden, Colo.; her granddaughter, Christina (Jeremy) Bienemann of Westminster, Colo.; her great-granddaughter, Michelle Bienemann of Westminster, Colo.; and her two sisters, Marjorie Downey of Silver Springs, Md., and Madelyn Wilson of Maumelle, Ark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert; her parents; and her sister, Ruth Kerr. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Keystone Cedars and Iowa Hospice. McLAIN Stanley Raymond McLain, third son of Ernest and Emma (Williams) McLain, was born near Birmingham, Iowa, Nov. 4, 1915, and passed away at the Ottumwa hospital July 20, 1939, aged 23 years, 8 months and 16 days from a heart attack following an emergency surgery a few days before. He was united in marriage to Miss Pauline Hanshaw April 23, 1939, only three months previous, and they had established their home across the river from Keosauqua. He was in the employ of his uncle, Ora Williams, as a traveling salesman, but had always made Birmingham and vicinity his home previous to that time. He was a graduate of the Birmingham high school in the class of 1933. He is survived by is his wife, his mother, Mrs. Emma McLain, two brothers, Harold of Birmingham, and Leslie of Douds; four sisters, Mrs. Eunice Mairet of Mt. Zion, Mrs. Lois Lazenby of Birmingham, Mrs. Thelma Askew of Stockport, and Mary of Birmingham, together with a host of relatives and friends who mourn his untimely passing. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Birmingham Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. F.M. James, assisted by Rev. C.H.
