Noel DeKalb, pastor of the Champion Hill Presbyterian church, in charge. Pallbearers were Joe Allen, Glenn Cooper, Don Twaddle, Frank Sawyers, L. C. Btillington and Glen Kellenbarger. Mrs. Glenn Cooper and Mrs. Frank Sawyers were in charge of the floral offerings. Order of Eastern Star Rites, Emerson Chapter No. 121. Pearl Elizabeth McLain, daughter of Frank V. and Carrie I. McLain, was born Aug. 8, 1893, on a farm near Emerson and passed away suddenly in her sleep at her home in Emerson Tuesday night March 7. She attended country school and later attended Iowa State College in Cedar Falls from which she graduated in 1913. She taught in country schools in Mills and Montgomery counties then attended college at Kirksvillc, Mo. early in life she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Champion Hill Presbyterian church. She was always active in her church and just last September was honored for having served as treasurer for 42 years. For many years she has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 121 in which order she has served in different offices including Worthy Matron. For 13 years she was employed by the Emerson State Bank. She has been a representative of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States for many years. For a number of years she has served as secretary of the Emerson Cemetery Association. To all of these duties she gave her best in time and effort. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mrs. Corena Birdsall. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Ungry of Red Oak, Mrs. Vera Gordy of Milton, Mrs. Edith Parker and Mrs. Velma Sawyers of Emerson, one brother Roy W. McLain, of Davenport and a host of relatives and friends. Burial was in the Emerson cemetery beside her parents. Among the many attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. McLain, Mrs. Vera Gordy and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Ungry of Arlington Heights, near Chicago, Illinois. Malvern Leader, March 16, 1967
