He was a resident of Wayne County his entire life. He married Louise Babcock on February 16, 1936, at Esther Hall in Des Moines. They farmed near Allerton until they moved to Corydon in 1981. He was a resident of Wayne County his entire life. He married Louise Babcock on February 16, 1936, at Esther Hall in Des Moines. They farmed near Allerton until they moved to Corydon in 1981. He was a member of the New Zion Methodist Church and had been an active bowler. He was active in Midwest Old Threshers Reunions for many years. During the 1980's he worked with Leroy MClure engines until no longer able to do so. As a young man, he had worked on a threshing crew and took pride in seeing the younger generations' interest in keeping the steam engines going. He received his certification as a steam engine engineer in 1977 and was later named Old Thresher of the Year. Survivors include a son, Charles and wife, Twyla, Overland Park, Kansas; a daughter, Dorothy and husband Dave Hidgon, Centerville; and four grandchildren.
