(Info from Torkel, FAG #48106268 25oct17) The 2 oldest sons, Arne and Ole, left Norway on June 29, 1868, on a journey to America, where they settled for a time at St. Ansgar, Iowa, and engaged in farming there. On April 15, 1870, the rest of the family left Norway on the ship "Roscoe". and sailed for 3 months before arriving in America. This part of the family settled at Mona, IA, and remained there for about 10 years, and were farmers. Sometime prior to June 1, 1885 Peder and Marthe took their youngest children and homesteaded in the southeast quarter of section 12 in Stavanger Township, Traill County, ND. According to the June 1, 1885 Territorial Census, they were in North Dakota at that time. They lived out their lives on that farm. Marthe died in 1899 and Peder in 1902. Both are buried in the Haugen family plot at Grue Lutheran Cemetery, rural Reynolds, ND. Brede eventually settled on a farm near Austin, MN, and Anton settled on a farm in Grand Forks County, ND, just northeast of Reynolds. It is not known why the family took the name of Haugen. It is quite certain it was not changed until after their arrival in America.
