Permelia Ann Vaughn (sic) was born October 3d, 1811, in Prince Edward county,Va. She was the oldest child of Wm. K. and Elizabeth Vaughn. Her parents moved to Wythe county, in the southwestern part of the state, when she was but a few years of age, and it was here that she grew to womanhood. Permelia Ann Vaughn (sic) was born October 3d, 1811, in Prince Edward county,Va. She was the oldest child of Wm. K. and Elizabeth Vaughn. Her parents moved to Wythe county, in the southwestern part of the state, when she was but a few years of age, and it was here that she grew to womanhood. February 20th, 1831, she was united in marriage with William C. Jones. In the fall of the same year they moved to Johnson county, Indiana. During their stay in that county, about thirteen years, her five sons and one daughter had their birth. In the fall of 1836 she confessed her faith in Christ, was baptized by Elder Mullis (sic), and became a member of the Christian church at Mount Pleasant, a short distance from the county seat. Since that time she remained strong in the faith and labored daily and diligently to follow in the footsteps of the Great Master. In the spring of 1845, with her husband and children, she came to Jefferson county, at that time in the territory of Iowa, where she has lived ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in Van Buren county. While the energies of her life were mainly exerted in contributing to the happiness and comfort of the wants and suffering of her neighbors, whom she ever helped with an open hand and sympathizing heart. Her death occurred Friday evening, the 18th past, at 7:45 p.m., surrounded by her aged husband, three sons, two widowed daughters-in-law and quite a number of grandchildren and one great-grand-child. The children are I.D. and C.A. Jones of this city and Dr. W. A. Jones of Cantril. The funeral services were held at the residence on Sunday, at 10 a.m., conducted by Elder Ross of the Christian church.
