Description	:	Peter Opel, third child of John and Margaretha Becket Opel was born November 30, 1861 at Keyser's Ridge, Allegany Co (now Garrett Co), Md. He met his wife, Mary Brenneman, at a barn raising in the Grantsville area. On January 4, 1887, Peter and Mary were married by S.A.Miller at Miller's home. Mary's father, Daniel Brenneman had given her 70 acres of land in the Bittinger community, just off Orendorf Road. The many trees on the property gave them wood to build a house. He met his wife, Mary Brenneman, at a barn raising in the Grantsville area. On January 4, 1887, Peter and Mary were married by S.A.Miller at Miller's home. Mary's father, Daniel Brenneman had given her 70 acres of land in the Bittinger community, just off Orendorf Road. The many trees on the property gave them wood to build a house. It was here that Pete and Mary made their home and raised their family. They attended the Old Amish Church on Foxtown Road.(Now known as Old Cherry Glade Mennonite Church). He once told his grand-daughter, Melda George that "the only wealth you will ever have is the children that God gives you." Pete and Mary had 8 children: 4 boys and 4 girls: Elizabeth Victoria; Susan Emma; Simon Earle; Leah May; Anna Laura; Daniel Webster; Albert Ray; John Herman. Pete was a generous, hard working, friendly, generous, and God fearing Man. Pete Opel died on May 27, 1950, aged 88 years, 5 months, 27 days. His death certificate states that he died of cerebral hemorrhage, with underling causes of hypertension and heart disease. He is buried in the old Cherry Glade Cemetery beside his wife Mary Brenneman Opel.
