Peter Alfred Harrier, son of Peter and Nancy Harrier, was born near Princeton, IL., March 21, 1861. At the age of 4 years, he moved with his parents in a covered wagon from Princeton, IL., to Missouri and then on to Kansas, where they lived for ten years. At this time they came to Iowa, making their home in Marengo, where he attended school. He also went to school while in Kansas. He came to Victor in 1881 as a young man to learn the harness trade from Lewis Clark. After working as apprentice for three years, he went into business for himself here in Victor. On July 17, 1901 he was united in marriage to Hester Nace of Victor by the Rev. C. R. Zimmerman. To this union three children were born. They were married only a few years when his wife passed away in 1909. In 1910 he moved to Marengo, where be bought another harness shop, which he operated for several years and then gave up his trade in 1927. He was a member of the Presbyterian church in Marengo for a number of years, also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Victor for over 50 years, receiving his 50-year jewel nine years ago. His health had been failing for the past few years and he was taken to the St. Francis hospital at Grinnell in November, 1952, where he had the best of care and medical aid. Death came Wednesday evening, June 23. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Miriam Blanche Rohrer of Victor, and Eletha Fay Harrier, a teacher in Des Moines; two grandchildren, Donald and Richard Rohrer of Victor, two great-grandchildren, Jeanne and Jane Rohrer, also of Victor; three nieces and two nephews, besides other relatives and friends. His parents, one son who died in infancy, and all his brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
