Peter Blackford Lauck, 86, of Annapolis, former city editor at The Evening Capital, died of Alzheimer's disease April 24 at his home after an eight-year illness. Mr. Lauck was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Washington, D.C., where he attended St. Alban's Cathedral School. He graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 1935, attended Hampden-Sydney College and received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1939. He served in the Navy as an aviation mechanic first class, and received a commendation medal in 1944 while serving in Tarawa. Mr. Lauck worked for the Alexandria Gazette and then The Evening Capital. He subsequently was an editor for publications for the U.S. Department of Commerce. He was a member of Peace Action and Chi Phi fraternity at the University of Virginia. His interests included hiking, camping and fishing. His first wife, Margaret Smith, died in 1972. In 1983 he married Josephine Bower Thoms.Also surviving are one son, John Moore Lauck of Annapolis; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anne's Episcopal Church on Church Circle. Burial will be at a later date in Lexington, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 8424 Veterans Highway, Millersville, MD 21108.
