Read More	The following provided by Find A Grave contributor "Cara": The River Press, Fort Benton, Mont., 21 Feb 1945 Peter Christensen Death again raided our ranks on Monday evening and removed from our midst a well known and highly respected citizen, when Peter Christensen, for the past 31 years a resident of this county, living just north of Loma, answered the final summons. Mr. Christensen had been in poor health for the past year or more and had been under a physician's care several times during that period. He was brought to the St. Clare hospital in this city on Sunday evening and passed away the following day, death being due to double pneumonia. Mr. Christensen was well known throughout Chouteau county as for many years he was county bridge foreman in this county and constructed many of the present county bridges. He was held in the highest regard of all who knew him. He had been a resident of Montana since 1900, coming to this county from Missoula. Mr. Christensen was born in Norway Feb. 24, 1870, and would have been 75 years of age the 24th of this month. He came to the United States from Norway when he was but 14 years of age and spent the time from 1884 in the eastern states, coming to Montana in 1900. On Oct. 12, 1914, he was united in marriage at Helena, Mont., and to this union two sons and two daughters were born. Mr. Christensen if survived by his wife, Helen C. Christiansen, and the following children; Edwin, prisoner of war; Victor of Loma; Helen of Great Falls and Joyce of Loma. He is also survived by a brother, John, who resides in Norway, and by a large circle of friends throughout the county. Pfc. Edwin enlisted in the service in Jan. 1941 and was taken a prisoner of the Japanese when Corregidor fell. When the invasion of Leyte island was made some weeks ago it was reported that he was being moved along with other prisoners of war by the Japanese, when the ship carrying the prisoners was sunk. A number were rescued by United States forces and some again taken prisoner by the Japanese, while quite a number were lost. He is still considered a prisoner of war. This fact worried Mr. Christensen a great deal and it has been more than three years of worry over his son's plight. Mr. Christensen was a member of the Masonic lodge and funeral services are to be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with local Masonic lodge conducting the impressive service of their order. The remains will be laid to rest in the Riverside cemetery. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.
