Description	:	SAN PIERRE -- Peter Eckert, age 45 years, died on his way home from the Sanatorium at Lombard, Ill., where he had been a former patient, last Wednesday night. He had been in poor health for several years, an inward goiter being the cause of his ailment. Read More	SAN PIERRE -- Peter Eckert, age 45 years, died on his way home from the Sanatorium at Lombard, Ill., where he had been a former patient, last Wednesday night. He had been in poor health for several years, an inward goiter being the cause of his ailment. At the time of his death he was suffering from various troubles any of which would have in time proved fatal. He had spent much of his time in the past years in sanatoriums and hospitals throughout the country, returning home on several occasions feeling somewhat improved but eventually falling victim to his same troubles. After spending a few weeks at home after receiving treatments at the Lombard Sanatorium, he claimed he was feeling better. His rally, however, was of short duration and last Wednesday after a week of misery almost unendurable he wished to be taken back to Lombard Sanatorium. Complying with his request his son, George, started with his father last Wednesday afternoon. However, upon examination the doctors at the sanatorium told him they could do nothing more for him. The iron will of the man who clung so tenaciously to life through years of suffering that would have claimed the life of any other man, broke with this pronouncement. On arriving home with his father that same night his son, George, found him dead when he attempted to assist him from the car. Mr. Eckert was in business in this town for many years, starting out in the dredging business when but a young man. He was successful in this work and might have lived a comfortable life had not sickness overtaken him. When the dredging business became to strenuous for him he worked in partnership on the Bell Gravel pit north of town. He was engaged in this work when death overtook him. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F. P. Kowtz of Wichita, Kansas, and Mrs. Craven of Chicago; two brothers, George of Chicago, and August of Wichita and two sons, Edwin and George of Monon. Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday afternoon, Rev. Donald C. Kime officiating. Interment was made in the San Pierre cemetery. Obituary published in the Vidette-Messenger of Porter County (Valparaiso, IN), on Tuesday, July 13, 1937, pg. 5.
