A ripe old age, and considerable longer than the time allotted to the average life of man. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and was well prepared by it for his journey into eternity. Deceased was born in Rhenish-Bavaria, Gemeinde Kindsbach, Germany, on the 8th day of August, 1821. In 1837, at the age of fifteen, he emigrated to his country and made his home at Cincinnati, Ohio. After six years he returned to his native home and after a stay of a year returned to Cincinnati, where he took up the blacksmith's trade. Three years later he went west and took up a homestead near Guttenberg, Clayton county, Iowa. In 1847 deceased was married to Miss Sybilla Stirmann. To this happy union were born ten children, namely, John and Frank Roth, residing in Roselle Township, Carroll County, Iowa; Mrs. Bernadina Kipper, residing near Guttenberg, Iowa; Mrs. Philomena Matt, residing near Glen Haven, Wisconsin; Mrs. Mary Mosmann, residing at Lindsay, Texas; Mrs. Elizabeth Kann, residing at Guttenberg, Iowa, and Mrs. Joseph Neu, residing at Templeton, Iowa, with whom deceased and wife made their home until the time of their death.He also leaves 43 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Three children are dead, Peter and Joseph, and a daughter, Anna. Deceased also showed his kind and Christian spirit to his fellow man by taking four orphan children to raise. They are, Mrs. Anna Heithoff, John Harbere, John Seger and Wm Kamphaus, to whom he was a father. Deceased came to this country in 1874, where he lived on his farm in Roselle township, until he moved to Templeton. Funeral took place last Monday at half past nine from Sacred Heart church, Templeton, Iowa, and he was laid to rest by the side of his good wife, who preceded him in death on September 24, 1906. Mr. Roth was a man of sterling qualities, a loving husband, a kind father and good citizen. Being a pioneer, who endured many privations in his early life, he was ever ready to help and advise those who came to him for assistance in their various needs. It is of such men that the Recording Angel writes in the book of Life in letters of gold, the words, "He was one who loved his fellow men." May he rest in peace. +++ The members of the family of Peter Roth, dec'd, desire to thank all the neighbors and friends who so kindly befriended them and assisted during the illness and after the death of their beloved relative.
