| Description | : | Peter and his brother Hans went to Lake Preston, Kingsbury County, South Dakota in May of 1880 to file claims for their homesteads. The men spent their first winter in a "dug-out" in 1880 on one of the homestead properties. Anna, Peter's new bride came one year later after the sod house was built. They spent that winter living through the blizzard of 1880 –1881. Peter and Anna resided in Lake Preston until 1898 when they move to McMinville, Tenn. for Ann's health.
