Allen, 82, of Mill Creek Road, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at Clapp's Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Holly Spring Friends Meeting, where he was a member, with the Rev. Ricky Sessoms and the Rev. Lesslie Winslow officiating. Burial will be in the meeting cemetery. He was a native of Randolph County, the widower of Gertha Cox Allen and a retired farmer. He was a member of the Randolph Livestock Association, a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Adult Sunday School class at his church. Surviving are wife, Elva Smith Allen; sons, Stevie Allen and Eric Allen, both of Ramseur; daughter, Cherri Cox of Ramseur; stepsons, Carlton Joyce of Fayetteville, Richard Joyce and Robert Joyce, both of Liberty; sisters, Ola Kenan of Greensboro, Josephine Moore of Ramseur; brothers, Elmer Allen of Ramseur, Clifton Allen of Asheboro; four grandchildren; two stepgrandsons; two adopted grandsons. The family will be at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, 7-9 p.m. Monday and at the church, following the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27420.
