Peter and Amanda Anderson Peter Anderson son of Bertal and Elsa Anderson was born in Kolding, Denmark on Nov. 25, 1873 and came to Hamlin County during 1882. Amanda Wilhelmina Johnson, daughter of Peter and Maria Mathilda Johnson (Niska), was born on May 18, 1883 in Allouez, Mich. and came to Hamlin County during 1894. Peter and Amanda Anderson Peter Anderson son of Bertal and Elsa Anderson was born in Kolding, Denmark on Nov. 25, 1873 and came to Hamlin County during 1882. Amanda Wilhelmina Johnson, daughter of Peter and Maria Mathilda Johnson (Niska), was born on May 18, 1883 in Allouez, Mich. and came to Hamlin County during 1894. Peter and Amanda Anderson were married in Estelline on May 28, 1902, in a double wedding ceremony with Amanda's sister Emma and Peter J. Wattnem. Peter and Amanda settled on their farm in Norden Township which Peter had earlier acquired, and lived there the remainder of their lives The farm is identified as the S'2 of SE' Section 5 and the N:2 Section 8, Norden Township. The farmstead was developed with additional farm buildings, shade tree plantings, spruce trees, fruit and ornamental trees and shrubs, the farming operation consisted of raising grain, livestock chickens and an abundant vegetable garden that provided for their family. Peter and Amanda Anderson were members of the East Norden Lutheran Church where they remained members all of their lives. Here all of their children were baptized and confirmed. Ten children were born to Peter and Amanda Anderson. Edwin Monroe, born July 22, 1903, wife Marion, resides in Lemmon, S. Dak, no children. Helen Marie, born July 7, 1905, husband Martin J Hallam (deceased) resides in Council Bluffs, Iowa three children, 11 grandchildren, one grandchild, deceased in childhood. One great grandchild Clarence Bernard born Feb. 26, 1908, wife Marie, reside in Pearland, Tex., no children. Gertrude Elizabeth, born Sept. 22, 1910, husband Lester Cords (deceased) resides in Iola, Wisc., three children and nine grandchildren Ernest Raymond, born April 7, 1913 wife, Maryan reside on the Bertel Anderson homestead site in Norden Township, three children ten grandchildren one grandchild deceased at birth. Jane Lillian, born Feb 27, 1915 resides in Lincoln, Nebr., unmarried. Fern Wilhelmina, born Oct 28 1918, husband Herman Peterson reside in Ontonagon, Mich., three children one deceased in childbirth, one grandchild. Elsie, born July 18, 1921, passed away July 22, 1921 Wendell Odell, born April 4, 1923, wife Mary Lou, reside in Sioux Falls, S Dak., two children, one deceased in childbirth Margaret Ruby Lorraine, born April 4 1925, husband William G Ferguson, reside in Livonia Mich., no children After the death of Peter's brother Soren and his father Bertel Anderson in 1916, Peter and Amanda acquired part of the Anderson estate the S 1/2 SW 1/4 and Lot 7 of Section 4, Norden Township. After the death of Amanda's mother, May 15, 1929, and father Aug 15, 1932 and her brother John Johnson, Peter and Amanda acquired the Peter Johnson farm in the SE 1/4 of Section 28 in Florence Township. This land is presently owned by Ernest and Maryan Anderson and operated jointly with their son David and wife Judy, who reside with their family of three children in the home located on the original Anderson farm land, located adjacent to the Bertel Anderson homestead site. Only their son Ernest remained at home to participate in the farm operation until 1946, at which time he moved with his wife Maryan and family to farm near Castlewood. Ernest continued to contribute and participate in their farm operation. Peter W. Anderson passed away on Sept. 16, 1955 and was buried in East Norden Cemetery. Amanda spent the majority of her time with children and continued to maintain the farm home and farm operation with the assistance of their son, Ernest. Amanda Wilhelmina Anderson passed away on June 5, 1963, while staying with her daughter Fern and her husband, Herman Peterson, in Ontonagon, Mich. and was buried in the East Norden Cemetery.
