Dayton Review October 10, 1918 Community Pays Tribute The Mission church was crowded to the limit last Sunday afternoon by the people of this community to attend the memorial service given for the late Private Charlie H. Peterson of Co. F, 168th U.S. Infantry, who was killed in action July 26th in the great Allied drive around Chateau-Theirry. Pastor H. Hultman presided, and gave the address of the occasion, and short addresses were made by Rev. Jessup of the Lutheran Church and Rev. Barton of the Swedish M.E. Church, interspersed with singing by the Mission Choir and the Mission Quartette. Charlie Herbert Peterson was born February 20, 1894, at this place, being 24 years, 5 months, 6 days of age at his death. He grew to manhood among us, and enlisted as a member of Co. F at Fort Dodge April 3, 1917, being one of those afterwards assigned to the 168th Regiment, and going across with the National Guard troops last December. He was reared a member of the Mission Church at this place, and was popular with everyone who knew him. Always ready to help in any activity where his services were desired he paid the great sacrifice for his country in the larger service, as he had always given his service freely among his friends and associates in civil life. He was always a good citizen, and he died a good soldier for his country. The tribute to his memory by his home people last Sunday was a fitting recognition of his manly worth, as well as to the sacrifice he made upon his country's altar.
