Word was received here this week of the death of Pfc Darel Harwick, 20, of the Marine Corps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Harwick, who were residents of Table Rock until two years ago, when they moved to Omaha. Pfc. Harwick was killed in action on Okinawa Island, on May 20th, according to a War Department message received by his parents. Darel graduated from Table Rock high school with the class of 1943 and was an outstanding tackle on the high school football teams. After graduation, he went to Omaha with his parents, and worked at Paxton-Gallagher, before entering the Marine Corps in August, 1943. He had been overseas since March of 1944, and was a switch-board operator. The nature of his death is not known. Survivors are two brothers, Adrian and Chester of Omaha and two sisters, Mrs. Delma Manley and rs. Berdith Manley, both of Beatrice. His father was employed as marshal in table Rock for a number of years.
