Howard J. Bushman, whose death was mentioned in last week's issue. They telegram which they received stated that their son died Nov. 19, of wounds received in action. The last letter Mr. and Mrs. Bushman received from him was dated Nov. 16, in which he stated that he was well. Howard Bushman was born in Lincoln Twp, Oct 17, 1917, the son of Harman and Margaret Bushman. He was educated in the rural school and was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. He was inducted into the army June 25, 1943, and received his training at Camp Swift and Camp Huston, Texas; was on maneuvers near Los Angeles, Calif., and was stationed at Indiantown Gap, Penn., before embarking for England in August, 1944. He was with an engineer battalion in the 95th Division of Gen. Patton's 3rd Army and he saw action in France and Belgium. Before he entered service he was engaged in farming and the carpenter trade. Besides his parents, Pfc. Bushman is survived by one brother, Walter Bushman. All reside in Lincoln Township. (From the Pocahontas (Iowa) Record-Democrat, Dec. 14, 1944.)
