La Vern Weiler, 19, who died in France on Sept. 8, 1944, will arrive here Monday, and funeral services will be held in Clements Chapel at 2:30 pm Tuesday with the Rev. George Rothery officiating. The youth was born here on Oct. 10, 1924, and was graduated from the public high school in 1943. Before entering service on Oct. 1, 1943, he was employed by the Santa Fe. He took basic training at Camp Fannin, Tex., and sailed for Europe July 1, 1944. He was wounded Sept. 6 and died Sept. 8 after service in the Normandy and Paris campaigns. Survivors include his father, William Weiler, Sr., West Point; his mother, Mrs. Maurice Hotop, Fort Madison; three brothers, William, Fort Madison, Raleigh and Gary, West Point; a sister, Lona Mae, West Point; his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Thurman, Mrs. Anna Weis and Merry Maneely.
