RITES ARE HELD LASTSATURDAY FOR LOUIS OAKS Former Resident Of This Vicinity Dies After Long Illness Louis Oaks, a former resident of Westfield and Akron communities, passed away Wednesday morning, September 30, in the Sioux Falls Veterans' Hospital, following an extended illness of a heart condition, aged 37 years, 10 months and 9 days. Louis Oaks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oaks, was born November 21, 1921, at Westfield, lown, where he grew to young manhood and graduated from high school. He served overseas with the U. S. Air Force in World War II. On June 28, 1947, he was united in marriage with Miss Claire Bay in Akron, and their union was blessed with one daughter, Patty. About four or five years ago he underwent surgery in Minneapolis for a heart condition, following which he was hospitalized for about two and a half years. During his recovers period he took a course in a Linotype school at Charles City, Iowa, under the Iowa Rehabilitation program, and took a position as operator in the Rock Valley Bee office, later taking a similar position in the office of the Mail at Milford, Iowa, where he was employed at the time of his final illness. Surviving are his wife, Claire; a daughter, Patty; three sisters, Mrs. B. C. Boyd, of Yankton, S. D.; Mrs. Myron Waterbury, of Akron, and Mrs. Velma Kroksh, of Hawarden, and a brother, Alvin E. Oaks, of Corsica, S. D., who have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement. Funeral services were held here Saturday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church, Rev. Fr. J. G. Skahill officiating. Acting as pallbearers were Francis Gale, Gaynor Harris, John Martin, Louis Conway, Wm. Meinen and Virgil Smith. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery, with military rites conducted by Hoschler Post, No. 186, American Legion. Relatives from a distance in attendance at the rites were: Paul Bay, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Philip Bay, of Tokeka, Kan.; Alvin Oaks, of Corsica, S. D., and Hans Lund, of Minneapolis, Minn. Also attending the funeral were Earl Reinerson and Wm. Goodman, of Milford, Iowa, fellow employes with Mr. Oaks in the Mail office. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, October 8, 1959 Akron, Iowa
