Keefer, 624 Chestnut St., a retired Emporia businessman, died Tuesday afternoon in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Keefer had been a partner in the Hanna-Keefer Grocery Store, located for a number of years on the corner of Seventh Avenue and Commercial Street. Mr. Keefer was born Dec. 6th, 1889, in Council Grove, the son of Wesley and Ellen Robson Keefer, and he was married to Sadie Ellen Williams on Aug. 21st, 1924, in Salina. He had operated a meat market in Ellsworth before he and his family moved to Emporia in 1934. Mr. Keefer was a veteran of World War I, a member of the First Christian Church, a 50-year member of Ball-McColm Post 5 of the American Legion and a member of Lowry-Funston Post 1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Clayborne and Lucy Cole, and he is survived by his wife, of the home; three sons, George Keefer, St. Joseph, Mo.; the Rev. Hugh Keefer, Atchison, and Robert Keefer, Wichita, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
