They were: Pfc. Stanley Focht, who was killed September 22 on German soil. Pvt. Harlan A. Delaney, who died October 15 in New Guinea. the message telling of the death of Pfc. Focht, who was inducted in service in Glendale, California, was received here Friday morning by Mr. and Mrs. Lester Focht from his mother, Mrs. Blanche Focht, whose home is in Glendale. Pfc. Focht had been overseas three months. He was in Villisca las June visiting relatives and friends. He was born in the Villisca vicinity December 22, 1923 and was a graduate of Villisca High School. RECEIVED SUNDAY The telegram from the war department telling her of the death of her son, Pvt. Harlan A. Delaney, was received here Sunday morning by his mother, Mrs. Elsie M. Delaney of West 6th Street. The message, extending condolences in the death of her son read: "Report received states he died October 15 i New Guinea. Letter follows." Since her son was not in a battle area, Mrs. Delaney believes death must have been accidental. he was a member of an engineering unit. On October 6, Mrs. Delaney received a letter from him, written, September 26 in New Guinea, in chair he said he was on the move but was all right at that time. Pfc Delaney had been in the armed service since November 30, 1943, and was sent overseas last June 1. He received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was transferred from there to Camp Beal, California. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT He would have been 20 years old October 20, 1944. He attended Villisca High School and was employed as a farm hand before entering the armed service with a Montgomery Contingent. Mrs. Delaney had two other sons in the armed service. They are Corp George Delaney, who is stationed at an air base in China, and Pfc. Woodrow Delaney, who has been in the service two years and is now with the 5th Army in Italy.
