Description	:	Phelps John Freburg, 92, of Holdrege died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Alma with the Rev. Jon Ross officiating. Burial will be at Alma Cemetery with military honors by the Military Honors Funeral Team of Lincoln. He was born Nov. 16, 1915, north of Loomis to Oscar and Mary (Larson) Freburg. On Oct. 12, 1956, he married Gertrude (Jones) Seyler. She died Oct. 25, 1993. Survivors include his son, John of Omaha; brother, Paige of Bertrand; stepsons, Pat Seyler of Omaha and Van Seyler of New Castle, Colo.; six stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his daughter-in-law, Lisa Freburg of Omaha; stepdaughter-in-law, Becky Seyler of New Castle; sister-in-law, Bonnie Freburg of Bertrand; grandchildren, Taylor and Dillon Freburg; other relatives; and many friends. He attended a rural school north of Loomis and attended high school in Loomis for 1½ years. He then farmed with his father on the family farm north of Loomis. On Feb. 12, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army at Fort Crook. He served in the 866th Engineers in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the southern Philippines and Luzon. He was a construction machine operator and had qualified with the M1 rifle. He received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, the WWII Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 30, 1945, in Fort Logan, Colo. After serving in the military, he returned to farm with his father north of Loomis. After his marriage, the family lived on the family farm near Loomis until 1969 when they moved to their farm south of Alma. He moved to 507 Lincoln St. in Alma in 1995, to Downs, Kan., in 2001 and to Chrisoma West in Holdrege on Sept. 1, 2005. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Alma and a former member of Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield and of Zion Lutheran Church in Downs. He was a member of Faye Cady American Legion Post 118 of Alma. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Jane on July 31, 1980; his father on May 29, 1966; his mother on Oct. 7, 1979; brother, Wally Freburg and his wife, Emily; sisters Goldie Scheeler and her husband, Bob, Louise Brandt and her husband, Del, Lorraine Schellhase-Woodward and her husbands, Claire Schellhase and Ken Woodward, Mary Jane Jenkensen and her husband, John, Grace Waugh and her husband, George, Mardelle Good and her husband, Fred, and Rosalie Humphrey and her husband, Wayne; and stepdaughter-in-law, Barbara Seyler.
