Breen Suffers Fatal Stroke of Paralysis Came Here in the Forties From Ireland, Where He Was Born – Interested in First Building Supply House and Lime Kiln Here – Is Survived by Many Descendants Phillip G. Breen, a highly esteemed citizen who was prominent in the commercial history of Nashville of other days, died at his home, 110 Fillmore street, at 3:40 o'clock Saturday afternoon, his death being caused by paralysis. He suffered a stroke about three months ago, but his condition apparently improved until Tuesday, when he suffered another stroke, which proved fatal. Mr. Breen was 77 years of age. The deceased was born in Leinster, County Wexford, Ireland, and through his mother, Mary Ellen Sheridan, was related to the poet and dramatist, Richard Sheridan. He came to America in the forties, and was interest in the first building supply house and the first lime kiln established in this city. For some time, he was a member of the firm of Ireland & Breen, contractors and dealers, in building supplies. Subsequently, he became a member of the firm of Wyatt & Breen, coal dealers. The first lime kiln put up in this city, and in which Mr. Breen was interested, was located near the site of the School for the Blind. At the outbreak of the Civil War in the United States, Mr. Breen was in Ireland visiting his father, and before being allowed to rerun here he was required to take the oath of allegiance to the Government of the United States. Mr. Breen was married three times. His first wife was Miss Hailey, of Nashville; his second, Miss Dwyer, of Illinois, and his last wife, who survives him, Miss Belle Tidwell, of Maury County. He is also survived by seven children – Mrs. Thomas Farrell, Mrs. P. J. Flanigan, Mrs. W. F. Ratterman, Mrs. Eugene Smith, Sister Scholastica of St. Cecilia, and John R. and Miss Elizabeth Breen. The deceased was a member of St. Patrick Church, and a very devout Catholic. He was a very successful businessman of Nashville, and before the war was an Alderman of Nashville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Nashville, which will meet at 3 o'clock this afternoon to adopt resolutions on his death. Requiem high mass will be conducted at St. Patrick's Church at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning. The following friends will serve as pallbearers: Honorary: J. N. Sperry, M. J.
