Description	:	Phillip J. Bernard, 65, of Akron died Friday, March 10, 1995, at his residence following a lengthy illness. Services were held Monday, March 13, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Akron with Monsignor Gerald Lyon officiating. Organist was Eva Brown. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery under direction of Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron. Casketbearers were Dan Meinen, Dale Manley, Collin Coyle. Dan Appley, Bob Walrod and Jim Henrich. Mr. Bernard was born June 26. 1929, In Jefferson, S.D., the son of Phillip and Florence Bernard. He graduated from Jefferson High School In 1947. He married Patricia Montagne May 23, 1950, in Akron. He operated Montagne's Pool Hall for 11 years and sold cars for Dirks Motor for 15 years. He was a rural mail carrier substitute for over 20 years and then a full-time carrier for eight years retiring in 1991. Mr. Bernard was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was the record keeper for St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery since 1971. Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Paul and Rebecca of Akron; five daughters, Kathryn Beacom, Linda Kjos, and Lisa and her husband Bernie Manley, all of Sioux City; Jeane and her husband Terry Stinton of Branson, Mo., and Lori and her husband, Bill Campbell of Le Mars, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Herman J. and Lorraine Bernard of Jefferson, S.D., and Ben J. and Patty Bernard of Sioux City; three sisters and their husbands, Rachael and Roger Bosse, and Noella and Jim Garthright of Jefferson. S.D., and Patricia and Bob Norton of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren and one-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Martin J. and Henry J. Bernard.
